A free community celebration of art, creativity and connection

Eureka Springs School of the Arts has announced the return of Hands On ESSA, a free, family-friendly community event celebrating creativity, connection and access to the arts. This year’s event will take place from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 4, in ESSA’s Windgate Iron and Wood Studio.

Hands On ESSA invites community members of all ages and experience levels to step into the world of hands-on art-making. Attendees can explore a variety of creative activities led by ESSA instructors and artists, offering a rare opportunity to try new mediums in a fun, low-pressure environment.

From twisting metal to shaping clay, the event transforms ESSA’s Windgate Studios into a playground of creativity where curiosity is the only prerequisite. With activities accessible to younger participants and engaging for adults, Hands On ESSA makes it easy for families to jump in and make something together.

A highlight of this year’s event is the Hands On ESSA Online Art Auction, featuring incredible items by ESSA instructors, artists and supporters. The auction offers a chance to take home a range of artwork and creative offerings while directly supporting ESSA’s mission. Proceeds from the auction benefit ESSA’s teaching studios, free public programs, and scholarship programs, helping remove financial barriers and expanding access to transformative arts education. Whether attending in person or from afar, anyone can participate by viewing and bidding on auction items online at https://essa-art.org/events/hands-on-essa/, or by visiting the Hands On ESSA page at essa-art.org.

“Hands On ESSA is about showing our community that art is for everyone,” said Kelly McDonough, ESSA’s executive director. “It’s a chance for people to experience the joy of making, connect with others, and support access to the arts in a meaningful, lasting way.”

Guests can expect:

• Interactive, hands-on art activities for all ages

• Family-friendly projects designed for kids and adults to enjoy together

• The Hands On ESSA Art Auction featuring donated artwork

• Opportunities to meet ESSA instructors and artists

• A vibrant, welcoming community atmosphere

• Ways to support scholarships and arts access

Whether you’re a seasoned artist, a curious kid, or someone who hasn’t picked up a tool or brush in years, Hands On ESSA offers a space to explore, create, and belong.
