Many of the oldest newspapers in Eureka Springs were lost to the fires of 1883, 1888, 1890 and 1893. A collection of the issues that survived can be found in the Eureka Springs Historical Museum archives, although they are very brittle and the museum staff avoid handling them unless it is absolutely necessary.

A local historian has finally given voice to a prominent Carroll County native, 90 years after a suspicious elevator accident took the man’s life. Dale Ross, vice president of the Carroll County Historical Society, has written a book titled “A Voice For Ira” that delves into the accident that killed Ira Gurley.

To create more opportunities for farmers interested in growing fresh fruits and/ or vegetables wholesale, the Northwest Arkansas Land Trust announces a lease program at NWALT Farms-Berryville. The program offers qualified farmers a sublease agreement for one of three 15-acre tracts of farmland on a 100acre property in Berryville.

Scout Clean Energy hosted the first of two planned open-house events on Tuesday, April 11, at the Berryville Community Center to address residents’ concerns over the company’s planned wind-turbine development near Green Forest. Scout, based in Boulder, Colo., plans for its “Nimbus” project to expand over approximately 9,000 acres — about 14 square miles — in Carroll County, much of it along County Road 905 southeast of Green Forest.

The art program at Eureka Springs High School has been a part of Jessica Cummings’ family for nearly 40 years. So, it was big news when Cummings, who has led the program at her alma mater since 2008, announced she was stepping away from the classroom at the end of this school year to focus on her private business.
