City government isn’t supposed to be secret

Dear Editor, A “strong mayor” form of government is not and never was designed to be a secret form of government. Regardless of what “the law” or municipal government advisory groups might say, a mayor is still accountable to the people and their elected representatives for all operations of the city departments under their jurisdiction.

A fool’s errand

I jumped the gun in this space a couple of weeks ago, it seems. I only thought Eureka Springs city attorney Forrest Jacobi had come to his senses regarding the city’s attempts to overcharge me for responding to a Freedom of Information Act request.

Lady Highlanders open 2022 volleyball season

The start of the volleyball season has been a bit up and down for the Eureka Springs Lady Highlanders. “We’re kind of rocky right now … trying to figure each other out,” coach James McVay said after the team’s first two games, losses to Thaden and Mulberry.

CERT training scheduled

Carroll County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training will be held in Berryville and Holiday Island beginning in later this month. Training will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each Tuesday from Sept. 27 through Oct. 25 at the Berryville Fire Department.

Countywide death toll reaches 115

Seven Carroll County residents have died of complications related to COVID-19 in during August, bringing the local death toll attributed to the novel coronavirus to 115, according to a Aug. 26 report issued by the Arkansas Department of Health.
