With a light agenda that included no items needing any action, the Eureka Springs City Council spent its much of its regular meeting Monday sharing opinions about various topics. The city’s advertising and promotion commission has been a hot topic of late, specifically since it hasn’t had a regular meeting with a quorum since June, days before the terms of commissioners James DeVito and Carol Wright were set to expire June 30.

Suellyn Fry is the first recipient of the Carroll County Quorum Court’s Person of the Year award. The quorum court approved a resolution at its regular monthly meeting on Sept.

The public is invited to a community summit beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, at The Auditorium to meet Katherine Andrews, Arkansas’ director of outdoor recreation. Andrews leads a new state office dedicated to growing economic development through outdoor recreation. Andrews had previously served since 2016 with the Arkansas Economic Development Commission as a project manager and later the director of small business and entrepreneurship development. The Outdoor Recreation Office is part of the Arkansas Parks, Heritage and Tourism Department and has a 10-person advisory board appointed by the governor.

The first-degree murder trial of Jason Helm — one of three Carroll County men accused in the 2018 slaying of Christopher Alvard at his home near Eureka Springs — was abruptly delayed last week in Carroll County Circuit Court.
