Darrell Hoover

Darrell Hoover of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, was born in Eureka Springs on July 17, 1950, to Henry and Ethel (Clark) Hoover. Darrell passed away January 25, 2025, in Eureka Springs at the age of 74.

Darrell graduated from Eureka Springs High School in 1968 and volunteered to join the United States Air Force in 1969. He was a combat veteran of the Vietnam War and served in numerous locations around the world as a jet aircraft maintenance specialist. He separated from active duty in 1974 and attended Twin Lakes Vocational Technical School, Harrison, Arkansas, earning certification in Heavy Equipment Operations. In 1981, while living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he enlisted with the Air National Guard serving in both Oklahoma and Arkansas units until 1984. Darrell honed his carpentry skills working for decades on numerous historical buildings and residences in Eureka Springs and Holiday Island. He was a master carpenter with keen problem solving skills; he could build, rehabilitate, or fix just about anything.

Darrell supported many veteran organizations and was a member of the VFW andAmerican Legion. He enjoyed aviation and automotive history, crossword puzzles, traveling and served as the de facto “Eureka Springs historian” for the family and friends he grew up with.

Darrell is survived by his children, Heather Dial and husband Chris of Portland, Oregon, David Turney of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren, London and McKenzie, along with other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ethel Hoover; and brother, Jack Hoover.

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m., Monday March 17, 2025, at Nelsons Chapel of the Springs in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at The Fayetteville National Cemetery.
