Claude Albert Fuller

The Eureka Springs Historic Cemetery would like to bring to the community a brief history pertaining to people who lay at rest in our cemetery.

We want to encourage our community to learn more about the people who have built this town. The first gentleman we would like to talk about is Claude Albert Fuller. Claude was an important man in our community in the early 1900s. He was a city clerk, state legislator, prosecuting attorney, mayor and a congressman. As the mayor of Eureka Springs, Claude made improvements to the town, such as the building of our courthouse in the Western District around 1908. He also led the building of our auditorium and paving five miles of city streets between 1920-1928 that are now classified as the historic district. We drive on those historic roads to this day.

Claude had many accomplishments in his lifetime, more than I can tell you here. So, if this brief bit of Eureka Springs history interests you, we recommend our Historic Cemetery Tour to gain a new understanding of symbolism within the cemetery.

This is available on Saturdays from May through July for a small fee of $20. Please consider participating in our tour. For further information, visit our website www.eurekaspringsar. gov/cemetery or contact the cemetery at 479579-7372. There is more information available at the cemetery kiosk near the fountain.

Please take note that any additions to permanent structures / monuments must be approved through the Cemetery before installation. This process keeps the cemetery records up to date and will avoid issues like improper installations and encroachment.
