Barbara Jean Kelsey of Eureka Springs was born March 26, 1944, in Little Rock, Arkansas to Hendley and Ruth (Rea) Smith. Jeannie passed away in Eureka Springs on September 26, 2024, at the age of 80.
Jeannie, a beacon of joy and creativity, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love and endless ingenuity. Known for her quick wit and infectious humor, Barbara could light up any room with her presence. Her laughter was the soundtrack to countless family gatherings, where she was the heart and soul of every celebration.
Barbara’s love for her family was unparalleled. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend, always putting her loved ones first. Her home was a sanctuary filled with warmth, love, pictures, and memories (and a lot of frog trinkets). She had a unique talent for making everyone feel special and cherished.
She had an effortless sense of style, always putting together outfits that reflected her unique personality and flair.
In her free time, Jeannie loved staying active, especially through her regular swims at the local Community Center. The pool was her sanctuary, a place where she found relief for all that ails you, and she cherished the friendships she made there. She also had a passion for the outdoors, particularly fishing. She relished any time that she got to spend in or on the water.
Barbara was also a thrifting enthusiast, with an eye for hidden treasures. She had a knack for turning the ordinary into the extraordinary, breathing new life into forgotten items. Her home was a testament to her creativity, filled with unique pieces that told stories of their own.
Barbara Jean Kelsey will be remembered for her boundless love, her infectious humor, and her incredible ability to turn everything she touched into something beautiful. She leaves behind a family who adored her and a legacy that will continue to inspire and bring joy to all who knew her.
Jeannie is survived by her children: David Gatlin, Julie Alberson and husband Don, Mark Austin and wife Melanie; grandchildren: Danielle Rappold, Jennifer Henry, Charlee Austin, Reese Austin; great-grandchildren: Hudson, Hayden, Harper, Hunter, Kaylee; sister, Dorothy Bernardi; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hendley and Ruth Smith; grandson, Willie Alberson; and brother, Ralph Smith.
The Celebration of Life services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Nelson’s Chapel of the Springs in Eureka Springs.
