Three Eureka Springs City Council members filed their paperwork with the Carroll County Clerk’s Office on Wednesday, July 31, as candidates to retain their seats in the Nov. 5 general election.
Incumbents David Avanzino (Ward 2, Position 1), Susane Gruning (Ward 1, Position 2) and Harry Meyer (Ward 3, Position 2) all filed as candidates.
Also filing their paperwork on Wednesday were Holiday Island recorder/ treasurer Wesley Stille and city council members Barbara Kuhn and Sharon Lawlor, all incumbents.
The filing period for municipal candidates seeking election in the general election began at noon Wednesday and will continue for one week, ending at noon Wednesday, Aug. 7.
Municipal candidates must file their completed paperwork at the Carroll County clerk’s office in the Eastern District Courthouse in Berryville.
After filing, all of the candidates will have to be certified by their respective cities, who will then notify the county clerk’s office.
The Carroll County Board of Election Commissioners will meet at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, for the certification of candidates.
County Clerk Connie Doss said her office can help prospective candidates with the filing process.
“We’ve got packets that are available here at the office for prospective candidates to pick up,” Doss said.
“It’ll have all their paperwork in it and then we help them with the number of signatures that they need.”
Doss said the clerk’s office also can provide prospective candidates with a list of registered voters, which can be helpful for candidates who need to get all of their signatures from voters in a particular ward or zone. Candidates and voters also can check voter registration information at voterview.ar-nova.org.
Individuals who want to vote in the Nov. 5 general election may register through Oct. 7. Doss said the clerk’s office will have representatives at the Carroll County Fair in August and Green Forest’s Agriculture Appreciation Days in September who can assist with voter registration as well as updating voter information.
