The courtesan Violetta (Louisa Wimmer from St. Louis) is begged by Giorgio (Henry Griffin, from Oak Park, Ill.) the father of her lover Alfredo, to leave her son and allow him to have a life apart from her during Opera in the Ozarks’ opening night presentation of Guiseppe Verdi’s La Traviata on Friday, June 21. She agrees, but in the end she and Alfredo reconcile, only to have her die from her terminal illness. Opera in the Ozarks’ 2024 summer season continues through July 19. Other featured operas this year are Robert Ward’s The Crucible and a double bill of Beauty and the Beast by Vittoro Giannini and L’Enfant et les Sortileges by Maurice Ravel.
