Berryville man arrested after CCSO finds missing girl

A 40-year-old Berryville man was arrested July 22 after a missing 16-year-old girl from Oklahoma was found at a residence on County Road 4502.

According to a press release from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, the CCSO was informed on July 22 that a 16-year-old female had been reported as missing by the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police in Oklahoma.

The girl, a possible victim of human trafficking, was being held at a residence on County Road 4502 in Berryville, according to the CCSO. “Investigators learned the female was picked up by a male identified as 40-year-old Robert Dustin Newman,” the news release says. A CCSO team went to the residence and made contact with Newman shortly before 3 a.m. on Saturday, July 22.

“Robert stepped out of the residence, visibly shaking, and admitted the underaged female was inside,” the news release says.

The girl was found inside the residence and safely removed by investigators until the family could arrive to take custody of her.

Newman was arrested and transported to the Carroll County Detention Center in Berryville.

According to the CCSO news release, a search of Newman’s property turned up drugs, drug paraphernalia, firearms and numerous electronic devices that were seized as evidence.

Carroll County District Judge Dale Ramsey set Newman’s bond at $500,000 cash and ordered him to appear in Carroll County Circuit Court at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21.

Newman is charged with interference with child custody, possession of firearms by a certain person, possession of drug paraphernalia, endangering the welfare of a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
