Clear Spring School in Eureka Springs recently received a $2,490 grant from Cox and used the funds to improve its “Wild Science” programming.

“It’s an outdoor education grant to help support our field sciences,” said Jessica FitzPatrick, head of school at Clear Spring.

Money from the grant helped the school put together several sets of science investigation packs.

These are backpacks containing a variety of exploration kits that students can take with them when they go hiking on the school’s trails or off campus. The school has several different kits — birding, creek critters, bugs, water and soil testing and fossil exploration.

FitzPatrick said the kits were a big hit with the students.

“They love it because we spend a lot of time outdoors, hiking, identifying, learning about the natural environment, but also learning how to take care of ourselves in it,” FitzPatrick said. “We visit a lot of the state parks so that they have a knowledge of our area and its beauty. The grant really helps because it supports all of the materials that go along with those outdoor investigations.”
