Former orchestra increases ‘band’width

Exciting changes have taken place for the former Carroll County Community Orchestra. At the end of 2022, the group transitioned from CCCO to CCCB – the Carroll County Community Band. All who have enjoyed CCCO’s music and supported its opportunities for students over the past 16 years will be pleased to know that work continues with the Carroll County Community Band.

And what a band it is! Its 68 performing musicians include 11 band directors and 30 students from Berryville, Eureka Springs, Green Forest and Valley Springs schools who served up plenty of musical magic during their Spring Concert on Sunday, May 7, at the Berryville Performing Arts Center Sunday.

The program featured music by Cole Porter, some hot Dixieland licks, and a couple of invigorating marches — a variety of old and new tunes. Special guest musician John Two-Hawks, internationally known Native American flute artist, took the audience on a fascinating musical journey.

The $10 admission for adults (free to children and veterans) goes to support the mission of CCCB, a 501(c)(3) organization. That mission is to expose music students to more difficult music and give them the opportunity to perform it as well. It also pays for students to attend summer university band camps and to pursue advanced music opportunities.

Those who’d like to support the band weren’t able to attend the concert can email randall@hidigitalbridge.com or send donations, made out to Carroll County Community Band, at 902 W. Trimble Ave, Berryville, AR, 72616.
