Two applicants to become Eureka Springs’ parks and recreation director have been identified.
Steven L. Jorgensen and Todd Davis have applied for the position, according to information provided by Kim Stryker, administrative assistant to Mayor Butch Berry. The applicants’ names had initially been redacted from information provided by Stryker in response to a request pursuant to the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act.
Jorgensen was a planning manager for the Bend Park and Recreation District in Bend, Ore., from 2006 to 2017, according to his resume. Before that, Jorgensen’s resume says he was senior transportation manager for Deschutes County, Ore., from 1994 to 2006.
Jorgensen’s cover letter says he has been self-employed since 2017 and has a home in Bentonville.
Davis, whose resume says he holds a doctoral degree in professional studies from Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss., is an assistant professor of health, physical education and recreation and director of outdoor programs at Delta State. Davis has worked at the university since 2008, his resume says. Davis, a veteran of the Coast Guard, worked in several positions in Idaho from 2004 to 2008, according to his resume.
At an Oct. 18 meeting of the Eureka Springs Parks and Recreation Commission, chair Ruth Hager indicated the applications would remain confidential until after the closing date for accepting applications.
The Arkansas Freedom of Information Act provides no exemption for employment applications or for the names of applicants for employment with public entities.
The new director will succeed Scott Miskiel, who plans to retire.
