Kind Samaritans display goodness of humanity

Letter to the Editor

In a time when so many are doubting the goodness of humanity and are afraid of strangers, please read this account of good Samaritans.

While delivering Meals on Wheels, I encountered a completely ice-covered county road between Berryville and Eureka Springs. My car would go forward a few feet and slide. Then I would try reverse with the same result. In the meantime, the folks depending on their meals were waiting.

I was trying to reach AAA to get a tow up to the adjoining county road which was dry. AAA apparently is all AI now and without going into the details, let’s just say I was getting nowhere fast and the clock was ticking. A couple of folks stopped early in the process but I assured them AAA would come. When it became apparent that was not going to happen, I was in full stress mode.

Letter to the

Along came two men, in an old truck, offering to help. They were a bit worn in appearance, obviously had not had easy lives, but their kindness shone through. I hopped out of the car, cleated boots firmly on the ice, and let this perfect stranger into the driver’s seat. In just a few minutes but with maximum effort and obvious expertise, the older gentleman had me out of the predicament and my car with meals back onto dry pavement. He would not accept any money for his good deed.

There are good folks everywhere and today was a clear reminder of that reality. Also a reminder of not to judge appearances. I hope these two heroes see this letter of gratitude for helping an old woman on a rural ice-covered road.
