“Full construction” is underway on Scout Clean Energy’s Nimbus Project in Carroll County, a company official said last week.
Mark Wengierski, Scout’s vice president of East Region development, said Tuesday, Nov. 19, that construction on the “wind farm” in Carroll County had begun the week before.
Scout, based in Boulder, Colo., plans for the Nimbus project to expand over approximately 9,000 acres — about 14 square miles — in Carroll County, much of it along County Road 905 south of Green Forest. Scout says the project could generate up to 180 megawatts of electricity at peak demand — enough, the company says, to power almost 30,000 homes. The project will include 30 wind turbines — four of which the company says will be 591 feet tall and the other 26 that the company says will be 644 feet tall. The turbines will be placed on private property, the owners of which have signed lease agreements with Scout.
Wengierski said construction on the project will be completed in phases.
“Right now, if you’re up at the construction site, they’re doing grading work to be able to stage the construction laydown yard. That’ll be the heart of the project. That’s where all the construction trailers will be located. From there, folks will leave from that centralized location to do their respective tasks throughout the project on a day-to-day basis.”
Wengierski said Scout wants residents to know: “We’re available. We’re available for their questions and their concerns. We really encourage people to reach out. We want to make sure the community is informed throughout the process.”
Wengierski said there will not be additional turbines beyond the 30 that are planned.
“This is the one and only phase for us,” he said.
Wengierski also said Scout has a buyer for the power that will be produced by the turbines.
“There is a buyer,” he said. “We should be able to make an announcement probably in the next couple of months.”
