In a Facebook post, Carroll County Clerk Connie Doss reported that an unofficial total of 4,342 voters had cast early ballots as of Saturday, Oct. 26 — approximately 26 percent of the county’s registered voters.
In addition to voting on federal and statewide races, voters also will decide several local races as well. District 6 State Rep. Harlan Breaux of Holiday Island, a Republican, is seeking his fourth term in the state House. He is being challenged by Democrat Rick Delaney and Libertarian Dakota Logan, both of Eureka Springs.
There is one contested race for a seat on the Carroll County Quorum Court. Longtime District 11 Justice of the Peace John Howerton’s re-election bid is being challenged by Caroline Rogers.
In Green Forest, there are two contested city council races, with Janell Compton and Sarah Taylor each running for the Ward 1, Position 1, seat and Luis Diaz challenging incumbent Carroll Smith for the Ward 2, Position 1, seat.
Incumbent Kenneth Mills is seeing re-election to the Ward 1, Position 2, seat on the Holiday Island City Council, running against challenger Bryce Holland.
Incumbent Western Township constable Jay Galyen is seeking re-election to that position and is being challenged by Jim Wallace.
Voters in Eureka Springs and Holiday Island will vote on ballot initiatives regarding advertising and promotion taxes. In Eureka Springs, a vote in favor of Local Issue No. 3 would abolish the city’s advertising and promotion commission and repeal the 3 percent tax on lodging and meals that supports it. Meanwhile, Holiday Island voters are being asked to approve a 3 percent advertising and promotion tax on lodging to support that city’s newly formed commission.
