One person was killed in a structure fire Wednesday, March 20, on County Road 140, southwest of Eureka Springs, authorities reported.
Carroll County Sheriff Daniel Klatt said in a Facebook post that county dispatchers were notified of a residential structure fire at approximately 10:21 p.m.
“Deputies, Fire, and EMS personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene,” the post on the sheriff’s office Facebook page says. “Once on scene, it was discovered that a female was believed to have been in the residence and did not make it out.”
Once the fire was extinguished, a victim was discovered inside the residence, the post says, adding that the remains were turned over to the Carroll County Coroner’s Office and will be transferred to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for identification. Further information will be released once identification has been made and the investigation is complete.
Eureka Springs Fire & EMS confirmed the fatality in a separate Facebook post.
