Eureka Springs eighth-grader Maribel Tapia won first place and sixth-grader Ava Johnson won second place among entries submitted by Eureka Springs teacher Shelby Chappell in the 2024 Ozark Mountain Student Art Show.
The show, sponsored by the Harrison Art League, is on display through March 30 at the Boone County Library in Harrison.
Fifteen teachers from eight school districts in the Ozarks Unlimited Resources Education Cooperative participated, with a total of 136 art pieces entered in the show.
Judges chose a first- and second-place winner for each school. Tapia’s firstplace entry was a drawing, while Johnson won second place for a piece of origami art.
The public is encouraged to visit this show and see the work of local youth artists on display.
“The Art League appreciates the art teachers who took the time to prepare the student art for the exhibit and the volunteers who put up the art show,” said show organizer Gina Booth. “The show was very difficult to judge. All the student art pieces featured qualities of creativity and craftsmanship. This reflects well on the quality of art instruction in this area.”
The show is on display in the upstairs mezzanine gallery area of the library. The show includes multiple media such as drawing, painting, watercolor, collage and more. A few select 3-D pieces are in the large glass case downstairs.
Viewing hours for the show are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The library is closed on Sundays and all federal holidays.
There is an elevator to reach the display on the upper-level floor.
