The Holiday Island Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new City of Holiday Island offices at 5 Forest Park Drive in Holiday Island. Since incorporating as a city in 2020, the city had been using office space at the Holiday Island Suburban Improvement District’s office on Woodsdale Drive. However, the city has outgrown that space and is now leasing space in the Commercial Park on Highway 23. In addition to Mayor Dan Kees and City Recorder Treasurer Wes Stille shown cutting the ribbon, others in attendance included State Rep. Harlan Breaux and Chamber of Commerce representatives president Peggy Lodewyks, vice president Traci Ram and board members Taneia Sneed of H.I.S.S. and Justin Grogan of Sunfest. During the social time after the ribbon cutting, Kees showed everyone a plaque that the city had made commemorating Tom Dees, the developer who is considered by many to be the “Father of Holiday Island.” Dees passed away last summer. The plaque will be displayed in the new city hall.
