In appreciation for veterans’ service to our country, the Eureka Springs School of the Arts hosted a full day of free workshops for U.S. military veterans on Saturday, Nov. 18.

Veterans had the opportunity to participate in a workshop of their choice in one of ESSA’s studios.

Workshops offered were: Making A Small Box with instructor Ray Taylor in the Windgate Wood Studio, Metal Sculpture with instructor Bobby Babcock in the Windgate Iron Studio, Intro the Small Metals with instructor Mary Lou Christie in the Small Metals Studio, Drawing with Pen and Ink with instructor James White in the 2D Studio, and Pen Turning with instructor Darla Gray-Winter in the lathe room of the Windgate Wood Studio.

The event, made possible through generous donations to the Jim McCoy Veterans Fund, was sponsored by Cox Communications, Sun Fest Market, Island Airco, Sabina and Jack Miller, CS Bank, and Elks USA.

Sun Fest Market provided a complimentary lunch for attendees.

“The Jim McCoy Veterans Fund is testament to the legacy of the late Jim McCoy, an esteemed member of ESSA’s staff and a cherished friend,” according to a release from ESSA.

A U.S. military veteran who served with distinction in Vietnam, McCoy received esteemed honors including the Air Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and Bronze Star for his exceptional service.

“Jim McCoy was a beacon of unwavering commitment and dedication to veterans’ causes,” according to the release. “His vision and tireless efforts laid the foundation for our ongoing support to military veterans. The Jim McCoy Veterans Fund, named in his honor, provides scholarships and free workshops for veterans, continuing Jim’s legacy of service and support for our nation’s veterans.”
