‘CLUE: On Stage’ opens Nov. 3 at Eureka Springs High School

There’s been a murder! Was it Mr. Green in the study or Miss Scarlet in the conservatory with a candlestick? Or was it one of the other suspects?

Find out when the Eureka Springs High School drama/choir troupe presents CLUE: On Stage on Friday, Saturday, and Monday, Nov. 3, 4 and 6 at the Eureka Springs High School Auditorium. Performances will be held at 7 p.m. each evening, with an additional 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday, Nov. 4.

The cast and crew have been hard at work preparing for the performances.

“I’m really excited,” said Madison Partee, who plays Mrs. White. “All of us have put in a lot of hard work. It’s a play that we’re doing a lot of stage directions. I think it’ll be a good challenge.”

Partee said her classmates are looking forward to seeing the play.

“A lot of people are excited because this is like a board game and this is something they’ve heard about,” she said.

For Aubrey Huntley, who plays Miss Scarlet, the play is a fun change of pace.

“We haven’t really done anything like this before,” she said. “This is just straight comedy, and we’ve done mostly musicals, so it’s really fun.”

Sam Jackson plays Professor Plum.

“I’ve got a character I really like,” Jackson said. “I’ve always been in plays. I’ve done Clue before. It was a different version. But this is very exciting. I love being on stage. I think I’m good at it.”

Harley Cooper works behind the scenes as part of the production staff. She said her focus is on making sure the timing is correct.

“Everyone paces their words differently and you have to go with the lines. So getting the timing right is the biggest challenge,” she said.

Carson Phelps is an experienced actor who has performed in The Great Passion Play for several years. Phelps plays Wadsworth.

“I love acting, just being able to take on a new character and learn different parts,” Phelps said. “It takes you to a new, different place.

Phelps said he’s a big fan of the 1985 motion picture version of Clue.

“It’s one of my favorite movies, so I’m glad we got to do this in particular,” he said.

For Donesa Mann, the production is a labor of love as showtime approaches. After a recent rehearsal, Mann said she is focused on getting all the small details correct as work on sets and props finishes up.

“I just know I’m not going to get much sleep,” Mann said. “My husband’s not going to get much sleep, just to get the details right. But I’m very pleased with the kids. They’re excited, they’re engaged. They’re learning their stuff. We’re just now getting all the weapons and props, the little details that are making it more fun when they have their props.”

CLUE: On Stage is based on the screenplay by Jonathan Lynn and is written by Sandy Rustin with additional material by Hunter Foster and Eric Price. The show is based on the Paramount Pictures motion picture and the Hasbro board game CLUE. CLUE: On Stage is directed by Donesa Mann with assistance from Jennifer Hatch and Rick Mann. The show is sponsored by CS Bank and presented with the permission of Broadway Licensing.
