‘Eureka Baby’ silent auction Sunday at museum

The Eureka Springs Historical Museum will host a very special silent auction fundraiser from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 30.

This is your chance to win your very own artist’s replica of the infamous “Eureka Baby” statue!

The original Eureka Baby was an alleged petrified child, mysteriously unearthed in Eureka Springs while a well was being dug in 1880. Some 70 years later, it was revealed to be a hoax, and nearly 150 years later, the Eureka Springs Historical Museum presented a temporary exhibit revealing the facts behind this elaborate guerrilla art project, inviting 10 local artists to offer their interpretation of the scandalous sculpture. Auction proceeds will be split evenly between the artists and museum. Limited- run, ready-to-frame fine art posters of the object also will be available for sale during the event.

The silent auction features one-of-a-kind local artist interpretations by:

• Samuel Asmus

• Robin Bray

• Jeff Danos

• Christopher Fischer

• Rigdon Irvin

• Larry Jones

• Kelli Ladwig

• Edward C. Robison III

• Janalee Robison

• Hilka West-Irvin Admission is $5, free for museum members. Wine and light refreshments will be served.

The Eureka Springs Historical Museum is located at 95 S. Main St. in Eureka Springs.
