Douglas Alan Divine, 76, of Eureka Springs, Ark., passed away in Fayetteville, Ark., on Thursday, July 20, 2023, from a hemorrhagic stroke. Doug was born on October 6th, 1947 in Minneapolis, Minn. to Loretta Johnk and Francis Divine. He leaves behind his son, Darin Divine; younger brothers, Dan and Dick Divine; extended family in Minnesota, Colorado, and Florida, as well as many friends and neighbors in Eureka Springs.
A native of Minnesota, Doug spent most of his adult life in California and Minnesota, where he worked as a carpenter and earned a degree in nursing.
Despite his budget for extraneous conversations, his dry wit and humor made him a beloved figure of his family and neighbors as well as a local book club and the public library. He will be remembered for his carpentry craftsmanship and having designed and constructed his retirement home by himself. Additional notables include a second career in nursing and his longstanding support of local voting and political measures. He was not the person to ask for much, but it’s certain he had a lot of gratitude when the local community included him. His affinity for his dogs, Jack and Lucy, his guitar, and local birds and wildlife kept him content. His passing brought together an intimate, surprisingly special group of people that will last in memory forever.
In place of sending flowers, we invite you to make a donation to Eureka Springs Carnegie Public Library, eurekalibrary. org/donate.
A Ceremony of Life including the spreading of his ashes “in some nice body of water on a warm quiet evening” as per his wishes…details will be announced at a later date.
