Holiday Island is close having its own space for city offices.
In a pair of recent meetings, the Holiday Island City Council has voted to approve the leasing of office space at 5 Forest Park Drive, formerly home to a branch of First National Bank of North Arkansas (now Bank of 1889).
The council initially voted June 20 to approve a lease agreement, then held a special meeting Thursday, July 6, to approve the agreement with revised language.
“The City Council of the City of Holiday Island on 6-20-23 passed Resolution 2023-005 authorizing the lease of office space at 5 Forest Park and … changes to the wording of the lease agreement were required…” says the resolution read at the July 6 meeting.
The revised resolution, 2023-006, authorizes Holiday Island Mayor Dan Kees to sign a lease agreement for the space, including a “budget not to exceed $30,000 be approved for leasehold improvements, furnishings and the cost to relocate the city furnishings and records.”
The city has been leasing one room in the Holiday Island Suburban Improvement District building at 110 Woodsdale Drive.
“By now you have probably also heard that we are looking for a larger space for the city office,” Kees wrote in a June blog post on the city’s website. “The one room we have been leasing from HISID has worked well up until now. But with the amount of activity going on with the Planning Commission and Building Inspector, it is impossible for others like myself … to meet with people or have a phone conversation.”
The new location at 5 Forest Park will be in the same strip center as a Carroll County Sheriff’s Office substation, something that Kees likes, he said in his blog post.
“Having the sheriff office and city hall next to each other right on Highway 23 give the city a more visible presence,” Kees wrote.
The next Holiday Island City Council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 18.
