A local business has been honored by Reader’s Digest.
Harold Elias-Perciful, who owns Treehouse Cottages with his wife, Barbara, said Reader’s Digest named the business one of its “25 Most Magical Treehouses in the World,” in May.
“The first time was October 2020, and they’ve been updating that list every year,” Elias-Perciful said. “It shows that people really love the place. In the world, that’s pretty amazing.”
Harold and Barbara Elias-Perciful have owned Treehouse Cottages since October 2019. The treehouses were hand-built by the previous owners, Terry and Patsy Miller.
In its updated report, Reader’s Digest notes that Eureka Springs is “the most charming town in Arkansas,” as ranked by the magazine.
“Three treehouses are located on a tree-canopied wooded hillside just a short distance from the historic downtown,” the magazine reports. “There are also four cottages in ‘Hidden Forest,’ where the cabins are nestled into a 35-acre pine forest. All of the treehouses feature vaulted ceilings with a large picture window, antiques, and Tiffany chandeliers, as well as a fireplace for chilly evenings in the mountains, Jacuzzis with a view, kitchenettes, and other amenities like homemade pumpkin bread upon arrival. The gift shop sells prints of the treehouses painted by local artists, so you can take one home to remember your getaway in the treetops in Arkansas’ Ozark Mountains.”
Treehouse Cottages also was named one of Travel & Leisure’s 25 best treehouse hotels in the world in July 2022, Harold Elias-Perciful said.
“They’re beautiful treehouses to begin with,” he said. “And we just try to keep them up to date and take care of all the painting, the sanding, all the maintenance stuff you’ve got to do to keep wood looking good. It’s an ongoing thing. We have great housekeepers, too. When someone checks into a room, the room is immaculate.”
Elias-Perciful also credited longtime officer manager Laura Waldon.
“She has a great personality,” Elias-Perciful said. “She talks with the people and meets with the people a lot. And I meet with people whenever I can. We’re just trying to bring people to a romantic place to enjoy their lives and their love.”
