No new deaths related to complications from COVID-19 were reported in the past week, and the number of active cases continues to decline, according to a report issued by the Arkansas Department of Health on Friday, Oct. 7.
The week before, the state health department reported the county’s 117th death related to the novel coronavirus, including 36 this year alone.
The number of active cases in Carroll County on Oct. 7 continued to show a steady decline, falling to a reported 36 cases and continuing a downward trend that began on Sept. 9, when 73 active cases were reported.
Friday’s report included 23 new cases of the novel coronavirus reported in the county, down from the 28 reported Sept. 30.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continued to rate Carroll County’s community transmission level at “low” in its weekly report with a case rate of 81.04 per 100,000 — down from 109.23 on Sept. 30 — with new COVID-19 hospital admissions per 100,000 at 6.1, a slight increase from the previous week’s tally of 4.9. The percentage of staffed, inpatient beds in use by patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19 was reported as 1.9 percent, down from 2.1 percent the previous week.
Friday’s new cases raised the county’s pandemic total to 6,950 positive cases with 6,797 reported “recoveries” — meaning those individuals are no longer being monitored by the health department.
Statewide, the ADH reported an increase of 2,044 in the seven-day period ending Oct. 7, along with 3,554 recoveries and an additional 104 deaths. Those increases bring the statewide totals to 953,327 cases with 937,387 recoveries and 12,252 deaths. The state health department reported 3,521 active cases on Oct. 7.
On the vaccination front, the ADH reported that 1,670,425 Arkansans — 58.7 percent of the state’s eligible population — have been fully vaccinated against the virus, with another 290,203 listed as partially vaccinated. Of those fully vaccinated, 868,398 people have also received a third dose or booster.
In Carroll County, 37,020 doses of the various vaccines have been administered, and the health department reported that 54.8 percent of eligible residents are fully vaccinated, with an additional 7.6 percent listed as partially vaccinated.
