Another local death reported

Another Carroll County resident has reportedly died from complications related to COVID-19, even as the number of active cases continues to show a decline.

The new death, reported by the Arkansas Department of Health on Friday, Sept. 30, brings the county’s pandemic death toll to 117, including 36 this year alone.

The number of active cases in Carroll County dropped once more, falling to a reported 44 as of Sept. 30, continuing a downward trend that began on Sept. 9, when 73 active cases were reported.

Friday’s report included 28 new cases of the novel coronavirus reported in the county, up one from the 27 reported Sept. 23.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continued to rate Carroll County’s community transmission level at “low” in its weekly report with a case rate of 109.23 per 100,000 — up from 98.66 on Sept. 23 — with new COVID-19 hospital admissions per 100,000 at 4.9, a marked decrease from the previous week’s tally of 8.6. The percentage of staffed, inpatient beds in use by patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19 was reported as 2.1 percent, down from 3 percent the previous week.

Friday’s new cases raised the county’s pandemic total to 6,927 positive cases with 6,766 reported “recoveries” — meaning those individuals have passed the quarantine period and are no longer being monitored by the health department.

Statewide, the ADH reported an increase of 2,541 in the seven-day period ending Sept. 30, along with 4,650 recoveries and an additional 102 deaths. Those increases bring the statewide totals to 951,283 cases with 933,833 recoveries and 12,148 deaths. The state health department reported 5,133 active cases on Sept. 30.

On the vaccination front, the ADH reported that 1,667,807 eligibleArkansans 58.6 percent of the state’s eligible population — have been fully vaccinated against the virus, with another 289,649 listed as partially vaccinated. Of those fully vaccinated, 853,472 people have also received a third dose or booster.

In Carroll County, 36,784 doses of the various vaccines have been administered, and the health department reported that 54.7 percent of eligible residents are fully vaccinated, with an additional 7.5 percent listed as partially vaccinated.
