Preservation officer announces resignation

Kylee Hevrdejs, Eureka Springs’ director of planning and community development and historic preservation officer, has submitted her resignation.

“Sadly, that is true,” Hevrdejs wrote in a Sept. 19 email to the Lovely County Citizen inquiring about her resignation. “I submitted my resignation to the Mayor lastTuesday.”

Hevrdejs, who has held the role since June 2021, didn’t give any specific reasons for her resignation, which she said is tentatively effective Oct. 21.

“At this time, I don’t have much to say about my leaving,” she said. “It was a very difficult decision for me, but ultimately this is the best decision for me professionally and personally.

“I think I accomplished a lot in my year here, but I’m not the right fit for this position in this community.”

Hevrdejs is the city’s liaison to both the Historic District Commission and the Planning Commission/Board of ZoningAdjustment.

“I’ll do my best to support my coworkers and commission chairs during this transition,” she said.

Hevrdejs is the second city department director to recently announce their departure. Parks and Recreation director Scott Miskiel recently announced he was retiring.
