Robert Kennedy, a former candidate for Carroll County sheriff, was arraigned last week in Carroll County Circuit Court on a felony charge of terroristic threatening stemming from his arrest on April 25.
Kennedy’s arraignment hearing was held Aug. 8 at the Carroll County Western District Courthouse in Eureka Springs, although his attorney had already entered a plea of not guilty and waived formal arraignment on May 25. Kennedy’s next court hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, in Eureka Springs.
Kennedy was arrested April 25 after an altercation with his brother, a deputy sheriff, at their mother’s home on Carroll County Road 107 west of Eureka Springs.
After his arrest, Kennedy was booked into the Carroll County Detention Center on felony charges of terroristic threatening, residential burglary and second-degree battery as well as two misdemeanor counts of third-degree assault on a family or household member. He was released May 1 on a $100,000 bond. He has been formally charged only with a single count of terroristic threatening.
Kennedy finished last among five Republican sheriff candidates in the May 24 preferential primary. He received 143 votes, representing 3.28 percent of the ballots cast in the sheriff’s race.
Carroll County prosecuting attorney Tony Rogers recused from the case. A special prosecutor, Jack McQuary, was appointed.
