David Writer will be the Republican nominee for Carroll County Judge in the November general election.
Writer defeated Bud Phillips in Tuesday’s preferential primary runoff to win the Republican nomination, according to unofficial final results announced by the Carroll County Clerk’s office.
Writer received 1,360 votes (57.26 percent) in the runoff, while Phillips received 1,015 votes (42.74 percent). Writer will run against Democrat James “Rusty” Rusterholz Jr. and independent Kelly Wood in the November general election.
In the race for the District 28 seat in the Arkansas Senate, former state Sen. Bryan King received 1,629 votes (68.1 percent) in Carroll County, while state Sen. Bob Ballinger got 763 votes (31.9 percent) in the county.
District 28 also includes Madison County, as well as portions of Boone, Newton, Franklin and Johnson counties. Vote totals from all six counties, as reported by the Arkansas Secretary of State’s Office, showed King with a total of 3,604 votes (53.8 percent) compared with 3,091 (46.2 percent) for Ballinger.
The winner of the Republican nomination for the District 28 seat will face Democrat Jim Wallace in November.
