Balm of Life Music Series scheduled to start Friday

Basin Park in downtown Eureka Springs will be the place to be for music lovers for the next 13 weekends.

The Balm of Life Music Series gets underway at 5 p.m. Friday with a performance from The Hawf Brothers, the first of 24 shows at the park over the next three months.

“The Hawf Brothers are excited to be performing at the Eureka Springs Basin Park Ampitheater …,” the group posted on their Facebook page. “We are pleased to announce that Billy Brady of Kansas City will be joining us. ??“This will be a fun evening of jam grass that you won’t want to miss.”

The following night, Saturday, June 4, “Drumming in the Park” will take place from 6-8 p.m. ??Other June weekend performances include Sebastian Bordeaux from 5-7 p.m. June 10, “Dancing in the Park with Melonlight Production” from 10 a.m. to noon on June 11, Opera in the Ozarks “Pinocchio” from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on June 16, Seth Darby Band from 5-7 p.m. on June 17, a performance from Fayetteville’s School of Rock from 5-7 p.m. on June 18, Eureka Strings, from 5-7 p.m. on June 24 and Dirty Strings from 5-7 p.m. on June 30.

There will be 10 musical events as part of Balm of Life in July and six in August.

The Balm of Life Series is being put on by the Eureka Springs City Advertising and Promotion Commission. At the CAPC’s May 25 meeting, commissioners said big crowds are expected each weekend for the Series thanks to an $8,000 budget for marketing.

“This is the first, since I’ve been on the commission, that we’ve done a concert series that we actually spent marketing money towards actual marketing,” CAPC commission chair Jeff Carter said. “Most of the time we just spent money on the events.”

“Right, last year we didn’t have a marketing budget at all for the summer music series,” said city marketing director Molly Horton.

Having that money go toward promoting the 13-week event should help attract many visitors to downtown, Carter said.

“It’s going to make a bigger, bigger splash,” he said.
