Daniel Klatt will be the next Carroll County sheriff, while Sara Huffman will be the county’s next circuit clerk and Krista Burnett will be the new county tax collector.
Klatt and Huffman won their respective races against multiple opponents in the Republican preferential primary Tuesday, while Burnett defeated Brittany Blok in the tax collector’s race. All three will be unopposed in the November general election.
Hunter Rivett defeated Geneice McCall in the Republican primary for the District 4 Justice of the Peace position on the Carroll County Quorum Court. Rivett will also will be unopposed in November.
Klatt received a majority of the vote among five Republican candidates for sheriff. The others, in order of finish, were Brad Handley, Bobby Engles, Matthew Dunham and Robert Kennedy. Klatt got 51.3 percent of the vote.
Huffman received 66.67 percent of the vote for circuit clerk to defeat Toni Hulsey and Denise Simone. Burnett got 51.26 percent of the vote in her race against Blok.
Randall Dickinson defeated Randy Langhover to win the Republican nomination for constable in the the Northeast Township. Dickinson will be unopposed in November.
There will be a runoff for the Republican nomination for Carroll County Judge between Bud Phillips and David Writer. The runoff election will be held June 21. The winner of the runoff will be on the November ballot against Democrat James “Rusty” Rusterholz Jr. and independents Robert Lynn and Kelly Wood.
In the race for the Republican nomination for the District 28 seat in the Arkansas State Senate, former state legislator Bryan King of Green Forest and state Sen. Bob Ballinger advanced to the runoff from a field of five candidates. King received 31.76 percent of the votes in the district, which includes all of Carroll and Madison Counties and portions of Boone, Newton, Franklin and Johnson counties. Ballinger got 29.18 percent of the district-wide vote. In Carroll County, King received 48.23 percent of the vote with Ballinger receiving 27.14 percent of the vote. The winner of the Republican nomination will face Democrat Jim Wallace in the November general election.
Harlan Breaux of Holiday Island won the Republican nomination for the District 6 seat in the state House of Representatives, receiving 51.72 percent of the vote in the district, which includes Carroll and Boone counties. Brian Ayers of Oak Grove got 48.28 percent of the vote. Breaux will face Democrat Markeeta Tucker and Libertarian Dakota Logan in the general election.
