Early voting began Monday in Carroll County for the May 24 preferential primary.

Registered voters may cast ballots at the county’s two early voting locations, the Carroll County Airport at 518 County Road 308 just west of Berryville and St. Elizabeth Catholic Church at 232 Passion Play Road in Eureka Springs. Carroll County Clerk Connie Doss said 153 voters cast their ballots Monday, 89 at the airport and 64 in Eureka Springs.

Early voting will continue from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday through May 21 and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, May 23.

The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot by fax or mail is May 17. Absentee ballots must be returned to the county clerk’s office by mail on election day or in person by close of business on May 23.

On election day, voters may cast their ballots at any of the six vote centers in the county. Vote Centers are located in Holiday Island, Eureka Springs, Berryville, Green Forest, Oak Grove, and Osage. Every voter has to be assigned to a precinct, but their ballot will be available at any of the polling sites.

Voters must show appropriate photo ID or vote a provisional ballot. If the voter doesn’t bring appropriate photo ID to the county clerk’s office by noon the Monday after the election, their vote will not be counted. Driver’s licenses used as photo ID must be valid in the state of Arkansas. Absentee ballots are also required to have appropriate photo ID.

Voters should also check to make sure their voter registration is valid. They may do so by visiting voterview.org, where they may also view a sample ballot.

Independent candidates are not listed on the ballot until the general election in November.
